Scout Scholarships for Minorities

Minority students who are active in Scouting have the opportunity to apply for several minority Scout scholarships and internships. These programs are specifically designed to assist minority students in achieving their educational goals and providing enrichment opportunities to assist them in their future endeavors.

Students who have aspirations of working within the government may wish to consider checking out the Federal Internship Directory. Interning with a federal agency is a great way to not only gain experience, but also develop crucial connections for the future.

HS-STEM Summer Internship Program Scout Minority Scholarships
The Department of Homeland Security offers the HS-STEM Summer Internship Program. This internship provides ten weeks of research experience along with a $5,000 stipend and travel expenses. Areas of interest include Engineering and Architecture, Environmental Science, Mathematics and Statistics, Natural Sciences, Pharmaceutical, Physical Science and Social Sciences.

Congressional Budget Office Scout Minority Scholarships and Internships
The Congressional Budget Office offers a Summer Internship in IT Programming in Washington, D.C. Applicants should have a strong work ethic. Selected intern will work as part of a twelve person team in assisting with the programming of a new database application. The Congressional Budget Office also offers a Summer Internship in Accounting and Website Support.

Department of Human Services Scout Internships Scholarships for Minorities
The Department of Human Services is sponsoring an Office of Evaluation and Inspections Intern Program. This program is for two years and is specifically for students majoring in Accounting and Budget, Business, Economics, Medical and Public Health and Social Work. In addition, DHS is also sponsoring a program specifically designed to offer student employment experience and on the job training. This program is for students majoring in Accounting and Budget, Art and Design, Business, Communications, Computer Science, Economics, Information Technology, Social Sciences and Library and Archives.

Department of Education Scouting Minority Scholarships Internships
The Department of Education sponsors the Teaching Ambassador Fellowship program as a way of empowering teacher leaders by contributing to their experience and knowledge and providing an opportunity to learn more about education policy.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration sponsor a National Media Intern program and provides selected students with the opportunity to learn more about the way in which the office issues warnings during life-threatening weather situations, local and regional forecasts and emergency alerts for tornadoes, severe storms, extreme heat, hurricanes, fire threats, winter storms and tsunamis.

FDIC Minority Scout Scholarships Internships
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation or FDIC also sponsor student programs that offer on-the-job experience and an opportunity to find out what it is like to work at the FDIC while exploring various career directions prior to graduation. There are also many fellowships which are available as well. One of which is the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship/Fellowship Program. The goal of this program is to encourage talented majors and professionals in science, technology, engineering and mathematics to become teachers. The Noyce Scholarship Track provides funding to colleges and universities in order to support stipends, scholarships and academic programs for STEM majors as well as post-baccalaureate students who have STEM degrees and who would like to obtain their teaching credentials. Applicants must be willing to commit to teaching in high-need school districts.

NSF Teaching Fellowship/Master Teaching Fellowship Track Scout Minority Scholarships
The NSF Teaching Fellowship/Master Teaching Fellowship Track offers financial funding as a way of supporting STEM professionals who enroll in a master’s degree program that will culminate in teacher certification. The program provides professional development, academic courses and salary supplements while participants are fulfilling a four-year teaching commitment in a high-need school district.

Department of Energy Minority Scout Scholarships Grants
The Department of Energy is also offering two near research fellowships through the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. The first program is available to recent Ph.D. graduates by providing the opportunity to conduct applied research at national laboratories, universities and other research facilities. The deadline to apply is June 30th. The second fellowship opportunity is available to Ph.D. engineers and scientists who have an interest in renewable energy policy and energy efficiency. Selected applicants will be able to participate in policy-related projects at the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in D.C.
